Coupon Overage

Category: ,

Stores like Walmart offer you the full value of the coupon even if the item you purchase costs less than the value of the coupon. This is known as coupon overage. On a recent Walmart trip I was able to score free cleaning products because of this overage policy.

Here is how it works.

I bought (2) Scrubbing bubbles Toilet Gel for $3.47 each.
I bought (2) fresh brush refills for $3.47.
I used (2) Buy One Toilet Cleaning gel and get one fresh brush starter kit or refill pack FREE (Up to $6.99) coupon from 04/01 Smart Source insert.
Final price $.06 overage when you buy the four listed products.

I received the full value of the coupon for a savings of $6.99 so I received both items free plus a .03 cent overage to apply toward my other purchases.

Tip: Not all cashiers will correctly interpret this policy so you may not always receive your overage. You can take a copy of the store coupon policy with you to discuss the rules with your cashier, but you might find that your mileage may vary when using coupons for overage.
