Once you have decided that you want to start saving money with coupons, you need to decide how you are going to organize them in such a way that it is easy to use them. There are many different ways to organize your coupons and I am going to introduce you to a few of the systems I have used.
When I first started couponing, I was only receiving one coupon insert per week. I would flip through the inserts each Sunday and clip the coupons for products that I knew I would buy. I filed them in an accordion file by category. It fit easily in my purse so I always had it with me when I went grocery shopping.
I use pocketed index dividers for each store where I shop. I slide the weekly ad and coupons for the shopping trip to that store in the pocket of an index divider. I also use baseball card holders divided by category for clipped coupons that I am saving for a good sale. I combine this system with the fabulesslyfrugal clipless system. They generate a weekly list of the coupons listed in each insert. This allows me to spend less time clipping coupons until I am ready to use them. I do highlight my favorite coupons on the cover sheets so that I can easily find them for Twice Value Coupons deals and other sale match ups.
When I started having extra Sunday papers delivered with a total of 5 copies of each insert, I outgrew my 1.5" binder.
My new binder still zips shut to keep everything in place, but it also has (2) separate 1.5" D rings. It has a handle and a shoulder strap and expands to 5" plus offers more pockets. I continue to experiment with the best way to organize, store and utilize my coupons and I hope that you find the system that works best to meet your needs.
What are you favorite organizing systems or tips?
