Save money on printer supplies

Category:

I love saving money with coupons, but if you print many on-line coupons an added expense is printer ink. How can you save ink and money?

1) Change your printer setting to draft mode. For most everyday printing, draft mode or grayscale will work well and use far less ink. You can change this setting by going to your printer menu, selecting Properties and then changing the quality to Draft mode or check "print in grayscale."

2)Preview pages before printing to be sure that the page will print correctly.
Print just what you need by highlighting the text you want to print, then print "Selection." You can also cut and paste the selected text into a word processing document.

3)Prevent ink from drying out by printing at least one page weekly. Once the cartridges dry out, they can not be saved. I never have this problem since I print coupons daily from sites like coupons.com.

4)Before you buy refilled cartridges or refill kits (where you inject ink into your empty cartridge), be sure that your printer is out of warranty. Using refill kits will void most warranties. If you require higher quality prints or photos, be sure that you buy the manufacturer’s recommended ink or toner.

5) Invest in a laser printer where your cost per page is less than with InkJet printers.

6) If you have a Staples store near you, they offer $3 per ink cartridge (in the form of a rewards certificate) when you recycle them at their store. They also offer 10%-20% back in rewards for each ink purchase.
